Kenneth Allmandinger Obituary

Kenneth E. Allmandinger, 77, passed away at 8:36 p.m. on January 20, 2020 at his residence in Van Wert.

He was born on December 14, 1942, in Van Wert, the son of the late Aaron L. & Glendora (Stump) Allmandinger. On February 18, 1962, he married the former Peggy McNeal who survives in Van Wert.

Also surviving besides his wife are his son Michael Allmandinger of Van Wert; his daughter Laura (Brian) Farris of Wren; seven grandchildren all of whom were his pride and joy, Jarrod Farris, Tyler Farris, Hunter (Allyson Rhoades) Farris all of Wren; Bradley (Leigha) Allmandinger, Samantha Allmandinger, Lexi Allmandinger, all of Van Wert and one step grandson Chris (Karla) Schnepp of Lima; one great grandson Everett Farris; two step grandsons Preston & Logan Schnepp; two brothers, Ronald (Neila) Allmandinger of Ohio City and Terry (Beth) Allmandinger of Mulberry, Indiana; sisters and brothers-in law; Wilma (Jerry) White, Janet (Dale) Schaadt of Van Wert and Linda (Harry) Montgomery of Sturgis, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Ohio City-Liberty High School in 1960. After graduation , Ken farmed for seven years. He then worked at International Harvester until it closed in 1981. From 1970-1977 he also owned and operated Ken & Pegs gas station/grocery in Ohio City along with his wife. After leaving the Harvester, he went on to work at several different jobs until he started working for Schwanns Sales as a Salesman/Driver, and the manager in Decatur, Indiana. He enjoyed that position immensely. Ken never knew a stranger, so this position fit his personality quite well. At the time of retirement he was working for Eaton Corp. Ken enjoyed bowling, fishing, baseball and Ohio State football. He never gave up on his Cincinnati Reds. He loved attending his grandchildren school events, sports, choirs and plays.

Ken faithfully served his Lord and Savior and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert. Through the years he served as an elder, usher, Sunday School teacher and other offices at the church.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew. CPL Aaron L. Allmandinger.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 24, 2020, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert with Rev. Kurt Klingbeil officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 - 8 p.m., Thursday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the Church.

Preferred memorials are to the donor’s choice.
