Harold Shaw Obituary

VAN WERT, Harold F. Shaw, age 97, of Van Wert passed away on January 8, 2021 at 6:54 a.m.

He was born September 6, 1923, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Emma (Railing) and Floyd William Shaw, spending his early childhood in Ohio City with four siblings.

Harold was a 1944 graduate of Van Wert High School.  He went on to serve in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater, aboard the battleship USS Pennsylvania and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Virginia Alice Allen and was employed for forty-two years at Continental Can in Van Wert. Harold was a faithful member, Sunday school teacher, and deacon at First Baptist Church of Van Wert.  His Christian faith was central to his life. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening and tending to his fruit trees.  He was fond of making homemade ice cream to accompany the noteworthy pies baked by his wife, Virginia.

Preceded in death were his parents, Floyd Shaw, Emma (Railing) Shaw; his wife, Virginia (Allen) Shaw; siblings: Wilbur Carl Shaw, Kathryn Ellinger, Ruth Miller and Phyllis Rosendahl; an infant son, Mark Wayne Shaw; and a daughter, Angela Jean (Shaw) Paris.

Surviving are: a son, Dr. Thomas Allen Shaw and daughter-in-law, Carolyn, from Wichita, KS; son-in-law, Rev. Larry (Jan) Paris from Tinley Park, IL: seven grandchildren: Scott (Sarah) Paris from Apple Valley, CA; Mark (L. Amanda) Paris of Chicago, IL; Bethany (Robby) Paris Vertrees from Louisville, KY, Andrew (Hannah) Shaw from Conroe, TX; Emily (Brad) Smith from Wheaton, IL; Catherine (Adam) Forsberg from Fredericksburg, VA; and Robert (Vanna) Shaw from Crown Point, IN; and seven great- grandchildren.

Due to COVID-19, a private service for the family and church friends will be held at Cowan & Son Funeral Home followed by burial with military honors at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City. 

The family is grateful for the long-term care of Van Crest Healthcare personnel, and State of the Heart hospice service.

Preferred memorials are to First Baptist Church of Van Wert.
