Gloria J Hurless

Gloria J. Hurless, 87, of Van Wert passed away on Friday, December 20, 2019, at Van Wert Manor.

She was born on September 6, 1932, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late John D. and Cleo V. (Fisher) Young. On October 29, 1950, she married Richard I. Hurless, who preceded her in death on January 5, 2014.

Family survivors include daughters, Pam (Denney) Kerns and Sandy (Gregg) Bashore, both of Van Wert; son, Randy (Etta) Hurless of Chula Vista, California; son-in-law, Larry Niederkhor of North Venice, Florida; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren: Joshua Kerns of Las Vegas, Nevada; Kim Kerns (Kevin) Davis and son, Sebastian, and Nick Kerns, both of Van Wert; Adam Niederkohr and children Piper, McCartney and Hendrix of Apopka, Florida; Fernando “Paul” Castaneda of Chula Vista, California; Eric (Monica) Hurless and children, Xander and Rayna of Bevercreek, Ohio; Erin (Manny Rose) Hurless and daughter, Trinity of Chula Vista, California; Andrew (Devin) Bashore and son Elijah, with the ninth great-grandchild, a baby girl, due in January, of Van Wert; and Daniel Bashore of Minneapolis, Minnesota; niece, Susan Young of Baltimore, Maryland; nephew, David (Julie) Young and children, Joshua and Ryan of Monroeville, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law Mel (Arlene) Hurless of Van Wert; and many nieces and nephews from the Hurless side of the family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Debbie Niederkohr; brother and sister-in-law John and Barbara Young; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rex (Wanda) Hurless and Virginia (Delbert) Barnhart.

Gloria was a 1950 graduate of Van Wert High School and a graduate of Fredrick’s Beauty Academy in Lima, Ohio. She was a retired beautician and operated Gloria’s Beauty Shop for many years. She was a charter member of Calvary Evangelical Church.

Services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, December 27, 2019, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery. Calling hours are 10 a.m., to noon Friday prior to the service.

Preferred memorials are to Calvary Evangelical Church.
