Gary Eugene Hauter, 76, of Van Wert, passed away Friday morning, October 2, 2020, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.
He was born on July 26, 1944, in Van Wert, Ohio, the son of the late Gordon Laurel Hauter and Betty Rose (Davis) Hauter. Gary was also preceded in death by his two sisters; Evelyn M. Heare and Carolyn Sue Hauter.
Family survivors include his son, Grady (Toni) Hauter of Ohio City and a daughter; Tina Hauter of Van Wert; two step-children Addy (Bryce) Cadwallader of Holland, MI and Aaron (Nicole) Hampton of Decatur, IN and four grandchildren, Gene Gillespie, Hunter Gillespie, Melissa Hauter and Katie Hauter. Two brothers; Sam (Kathy) Hauter of Van Wert and Roy (Patricia) Hauter of Convoy. Three sisters; Martha Grimm of Ossian, IN, Rose Jenkins of Decatur, IN and Kay Hauter of Lexington, KY.
Gary was a 1963 graduate of Parkway High School, he was a member of the Rockford Eagles FOE #1292 and was a member of the American Legion Post #178 in Van Wert. Gary served his country in the Ohio National Guard during the Vietnam War, he worked for Mercer Landmark and General Electric out of Decatur, Indiana. He loved going to Lexington, KY to watch baseball games and supporting his grandchildren in whatever they did.
Services will be on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and burial will take place at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery with military rites to follow by the American Legion Post #178 and VFW Post #5803. Calling hours are Tuesday 3 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the Wren Ballpark Associations, Wren Fire & E. M. S. Department or the Wren Historian Society.
