Donald "Salty" Waltmire

Donald “Salty” Waltmire, 66 of Van Wert, passed at 7:35 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Mercy Health- St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.

He was born April 8, 1953 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of the late Harold F. Waltmire and Jeannette J. (Burris) Waltmire, who survives in Van Wert.  He married the former Robin L. Agler, who survives in Van Wert.

Salty graduated from Crestview High School in 1971.  He had worked for many years at Masolite Concrete of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Cooper Farms of Van Wert, where he retired in 2015.  

He was a avid Nascar fan, Ohio State fan,  loved all his grandchildren, love to golf, and hang with all of his friends & family and make his rounds.

Family survivors include his mother, Jeannette Waltmire of Van Wert; wife, Robin Waltmire of Van Wert; two sons, Shane (Tarra) Waltmire and Dusty Waltmire, both of Van Wert; five grandchildren, Courtney, Payton, Saige, Addison, & Tatum Waltmire all of Van Wert.

He is also survived by his siblings, Rick (Cheryl) Waltmire of Van Wert, Steve (Jennifer) Waltmire of Findlay, Myrna (Cletus) Marsee of Van Wert, Deb (Dave) Webster of Convoy, Barb (Larry) Fulk of Van Wert, and Bruce Waltmire of Van Wert.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Waltmire; brother-in-law, Cletus Marsee; and uncle, Bob Waltmire.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Evangelical Church (10686 Van Wert- Decatur Road), officiated by Pastor W. Clark Williman.  Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Convoy, Ohio.  Visitation is scheduled from 1-7 p.m. Friday, May 24 at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour ahead of the service at the church on Saturday.
