Debra S. Matthews, 70, of Ohio City passed away at her home after a long battle with multiple myeloma.
Deb was born on May 31, 1949 in Ohio City to the late Don and Eleanor Prichard. She attended Ohio City-Liberty for school and graduated in 1967. After school she attended Indiana Business College in Fort Wayne. She worked for several years at Central Mutual Insurance and then joined the United States Postal Service in 1983. She retired from there in 2014 after 31 years of service.
In 1973, she married E. Wayne Matthews and he survives in Ohio City. She has two daughters, Jamie (Bob) Friedrich of Delphos and Lorie (Philip) Garwood of Decatur, Indiana; and a sister Carol (Steve) Massie of Jackson, Michigan.. Deb especially loved her five grandchildren, Wyatt Friedrich, Gracie Garwood, Rubie Friedrich, Grifin Garwood and Graden Garwood.
Besides her parents, Deb was preceded in death by an infant sister, Nedra Kay Prichard and her in-laws, Charles and Marcille Matthews.
Deb enjoyed every moment spent with her family. She loved to read, camp and enjoy all the grandkids activities. She will forever be missed and loved by her friends and family.
Deb had been a lifelong member of the Ohio City United Methodist Church. She also supported the American Legion and the DAV.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2020, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastors Richard Larimore and Gary Ginter officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 - 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the Ohio City United Methodist Church or the Ohio City E.M.S.
