Brian T Bess

Brian Taylor Bess passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the age of 52. 
He was born on December 23, 1967, in Seoul, South Korea. As a baby, he immigrated to the states with his mother, Kelly Bess (Ok Cha Kim), who had met his father Paul Stephen Bess while he served in the U.S. Army. Brian studied Organizational Leadership at PFW (formally IPFW) upon return from his three-year service to the U.S. Army beginning at Ft. Jackson, SC, then Redstone Arsenal, Alabama for advanced training, and finally at Ft. Bliss, Texas. Brian had a great love for music - specifically, for playing guitar. There was rarely a lick he couldn’t play nor a hammer-on he couldn’t pull off. He possessed a unique sense of humor and a light-hearted spirit, but a heavy heart. He was a natural at sketching and drawing and impressed anyone who saw his font-perfect handwriting. Brian worked for nearly 16 years as a machine operator, among other roles, at Sumi-Riko OH, formerly known as DTR Industries. 
He is survived by his two-year old daughter Aubrey Brianna Bess and her mother Amber G. Henninger & children Mikey and Brandon Henninger, his father Paul Stephen Bess and sister, Linda Ruth Bess, his aunt and uncle Charlene Bess Brumbaugh and Rev. Jan D. Brumbaugh, his cousin Stephanie Ruth Brumbaugh, and a number of relatives from South Korea. 
To practice social distancing, private services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert. Public services will be via livestream on Cowan & Sons’ website and, in a separate stream facilitated by the family. Interment will follow at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery whereby Brian will receive a military funeral honors ceremony. Calling hours are one hour prior to services. Flowers, donations, and sentiments may be sent to the funeral home.
