Billy Johnson Obituary


Billy Coleman Johnson, 84, passed away Monday evening at his residence in Middle Point.
He was born on November 28, 1935, in Conyers, Georgia, the son of the late Benjamin F. and Anna Lillie (Leach) Johnson. On October 5, 1956, he married the former Mildred Jean Hoghe who preceded him in death on July 18, 2017.
Family survivors include a son, Kenneth C. (Sheila) Johnson of Van Wert; two daughters, Kathy (David) Brown of Valparaiso, Indiana and Keri (John) Wilson of Hartville, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.
Billy was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Clifford and Benjamin F. Johnson, Jr.; three sisters, Laverne, Elizabeth and Opal Lou; and a grand daughter, Shannon Johnson Vann.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Middle Point United Methodist Church. Billy retired from Federal Mogul in Van Wert in 1994. He was a member of the Middle Point Lions Club and Van Wert Post 5803 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Billy enjoyed fishing and playing cards whenever he could with his Federal Mogul buddies at the Sportsman’s Club and with his kids and family.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2020, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home Pastor Tim Owens officiating. Interment will follow at King Cemetery where military rites will be held by the combined honors guards of the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts of Van Wert. Calling hours are 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Middle Point Ballpark Association.
