Wilmer Bernel Bowers, 95, of Convoy, died at 12:30 p.m., Saturday at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on August 15, 1920, in Huntington, Indiana, the son of the late Samuel Howard and Flossie Lulu (Ingmire) Bowers. On January 3, 1942, he married the former Vivian Mary Owens who preceded him in death on December 3, 2003. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Bowers, Jr., and Walter Bowers, and a sister, Bernice Coble. Family members include his son, Keith W. Bowers of Convoy; one sister, Eileen Cleary of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four grandchildren, Brian, Brock, Camille and Mindy Bowers; eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Mr. Bowers was a 1941 graduate of Huntington High School and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Convoy United Methodist Church for over 70 years. He was an Honorary Citizen of Convoy of the Convoy Lions Club. He was a member of the American Legion Post #208 of Convoy and the Convoy Lions Club for over 70 years. Wilmer was owner of Wilmer B. Bowers Furniture Manufacturing and worked at Aeroquip Corp. in Van Wert. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Convoy United Methodist Church with Rev. Melissa Steinecker officiating. Interment will follow at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the combined honor guard of the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts of Van Wert. Calling hours are 9 a.m., until time of services Saturday also at Convoy Untied Methodist Church. Preferred memorials are to the Convoy Untied Methodist Church Bowers Senior Choir Trust Fund.
