Warren C. "Dutch" Morris, 84, of York Township, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at his home in York Township where he was born on April 2, 1928, during a big ice storm. His parents were Robert P. and Ellen (Roberts) Morris. On June 17, 1956, he married for former, Alice Ann Fawcett, and she survives at the residence. Other survivors include his son: Dr. Calvin (Deborah) Morris of York Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, and his children: Shannon (Matt) Graham of Columbus, Ohio, W. Evan (Rose) Morris of York Township; sister: Laura Lininger of Atlanta, Ga., and her three daughters: Christa, Mary Ellen and Jackie; and a very special nephew: Robert (Shiela) Morris of Van Wert. He was preceded in death by a brother, Palmer Morris; a sister, Mary VanWyck; and an aunt, Rose (Roberts) Rosenwasser. The nickname "Dutch" was given to him by a neighbor because he wore little Dutch Boy overalls which were common during that time. He thought Dutch was his name when he started school. Dutch farmed and lived all his life on the farm on which he was born. He was an E5 sergeant during the Korean Conflict serving as a demolition expert with the 630th Light Combat Engineers. They built an airstrip in North Korea. He received two battle stars and a Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He later returned for a visit commemorating the 50th anniversary of the war. Dutch attended Kingsley United Methodist Church. He was a York Township trustee for 28 years and Republican Central Committeeman for many years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772 of Spencerville and a member of American Legion Post 178 of Van Wert. Recently, he was inducted into both the First Families of Van Wert County and the Pioneer Families of Van Wert County. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m, Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Kingsley United Methodist Church in York Township with Rev. Tony Perry officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Spencerville V.F.W. Post 6772. Calling hours are 9 - 11 a.m., Saturday at the church and a lunch in his honor will follow the service. His cremains will be divided between the farm he loved and part later interred with his wife he loved at the Venedocia Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to Kingsley United Methodist Church.
