Obituary

Warren "Bud" Mason, 87, of Van Wert, died at 8:07 a.m., Sunday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on August 18, 1927, in Convoy, Ohio, the son of the late Austin and Bessie (Butts) Mason. In June 1949, he married the former Pearl Stutz who survives in Van Wert. Other family survivors include two sons, Jerry Mason and Tony (Tyla) Mason, all of Van Wert; six grandchildren, Andrea and Lea Mason of Charleston, SC, Makenna and Warren Mason, Keli Ralston and Zania Hasty, all of Van Wert; a sister, Evelyn Ludwig of Van Wert; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a newborn grandson and two sisters, Ruth Johnson and Irene Otte. Bud was a veteran of the Army Air Corp having served in the Philippine Islands. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 5803, Van Wert, and member of American Legion Post 178, and the Moose Lodge of Van Wert. He retired in 1985 from Continental Can Company after 38 years of service. He was an avid golfer for many years and played and coached slow pitch softball years ago. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. There will be calling hours 10 a.m. to time of service on Saturday. Military rites will follow conducted by the combined honor guard of the American Legion and V.F. W. Posts of Van Wert. Preferred memorials are to the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center. Van Wert.
