Virginia Valentine Herminghuysen, 105, of Van Wert, passed away at 12:35 a.m., Saturday at the Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert. She was born on February 14, 1912, in Medina, Michigan, the daughter of the late Henry Ray and Orpha May (Carmean) Hymen. On January 31, 1943, she married Elza Lee Herminghuysen who died on November 19, 1985. Family survivors include her son, David L. (Pam) Herminghuysen of Van Wert; a daughter, Jean M. Dawson of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Kevin (Sheila) Herminghuysen, Kris (Israt) Herminghuysen, Mark (Rachel) Dawson, and Kim (Richard) Christensen; five great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Gaylord, and Robert Hymen; four sisters, Kathryn Yoh, Helen Blank, Mildred Elouise Schmidt, and Margaret L. Hymen; and a son-in-law, Bill Dawson. Virginia was a 1930 graduate of Hoaglin-Jackson High School. She was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church where she belonged to the Gleaners Sunday School Class and the Martha Missionary Circle. Services will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Lance Hostetler officiating. Interment will follow at Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday 10 a.m., until time of service. Preferred memorials are to Gideon's International or the donor's choice.
