Obituary

Tony Allan Swander, 55, died at 7:22 a.m., Friday at the St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. He was born on August 9, 1959, the son of the late Paul W. and Rhea Bernice (Boroff) Swander. One June 28, 1988, he married the former Lori L. Knittle-Delgado who survives in Rockford. Other family members include his step-children, Ginny (Clint) Boroff and Delphos and Jarod (Jamie Tucker) Delgado of Payne; seven grandchildren, Gavin Delgado, Lennox Boroff, Corbin Delgado, twins Layne and Aryah Delgado, Lilly and Lizzy Holbrook; two brothers, Darrell E. (Diana) Swander of Ohio City and Paul G. "Tip" (Janeece Friesner) Swander of Van Wert; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. Tony loved his kids and grandkids with all his heart. He was able to spend his last Christmas with us. Tony was a 1978 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School. When younger, he was a long-time member of the Ohio City and Mendon Union Fire Departments. He was a Rockford Eagle Lodge member for several years. As a youth, he was a Boy Scout. When Tony was healthy, his passions were charter-boat fishing on Lake Erie, hunting trips and camping - mostly at Sun Valley. He was a 24-year Teleflex employee, then a CCT and MLS truck driver until he became ill. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Bevington officiating. Calling hours are 2 - 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Preferred memorials are to his Grandchildren's college or the American Liver Foundation.
