Union Township- Shirley J. Laipply, 78 of rural Van Wert, died at 12:59 p.m., Tuesday October 8, 2013 at the Van Wert County Hospital. She was born on September 8, 1935 in Convoy, Ohio the daughter of the late Berniece (Hilton) and Cletus Frane. On June 23, 1961, she married Robert Laipply, who survives at the residence. Shirley retired in 1011 from Hilton Jewelry and Kulwicki Insurance Company in Convoy, Ohio. She was a member of the St. Marys of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert; trustee and former secretary of the Convoy Community Foundation; and a 1953 graduate of Convoy-Union High School. Family survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Mike Garke of Burkettsville, Ohio; two sons, Bob Laipply of Spring Arbor, Michigan and Steve Laipply of Dallas, Texas; and three grandchildren, Adam, Rebecca, & Nathan Laipply. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 10, 3-7 p.m. at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, Ohio. Funeral Mass is Friday, October 11, 10:30 a.m. at St. Marks of the Assumption Catholic Church, officiated by Father Stanley Szybka and Father Charles Obinwa. Interment is at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Convoy, Ohio. Memorial contribution are to the Convoy Community Foundation.
