November 22, 2016
What a Friend he had in Jesus and in His loving arms He took Sam and said "Well done thy good and faithful servant". Rev. Samuel A. Brewster Sr. of Rockford, Ohio was called home to rest by our Lord and Savior for whom he so faithfully served by sharing with others God's Love and Salvation. He passed away at 3:37 a.m., Tuesday at The Laurels of Shane Hill near Rockford. There was always a song in his heart praising his Lord as he loved to sing. He was born on November 15, 1935 in Honaker, Virginia to Herbert and Mollie (Barnhart) Brewster. Sam was called to pastor nearly 30 years for several churches in Greenville Pennsylvania, Monroe Indiana, East Liverpool Ohio and in his final home of Rockford, Ohio - Olive Branch and Sugar Ridge Churches of God and Elgin United Brethren. One of his favorite times of the year was Easter for which he put on an Easter Passion play for several years with a cast of members from Olive Branch and Sugar Ridge churches. Sam was a member of the New Horizons Community Church in Rockford, Ohio. He retired from Federal Mogul as a punch press operator for 22 years. Sam was also an avid gardener tending to his flower and vegetable gardens and fruit trees and he also loved to camp. Sam is survived by his loving wife Darcus "Dee" Brewster of 62 years; a son, Sam, Jr. (Laura) of Lansing, Michigan; and a daughter, Deann (Tony) Hardeman of St. Mary's. He was grandfather to five grandchildren which were his pride and joy - Brittney, Molly, Spencer, Jessica and Ashley; and one great granddaughter, Samantha. He is also survived by his brother Ted of West Virginia. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill and Lee and one sister June. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert with Pastor Dave Souers officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City, Ohio.
