Roberta Bernice (Harden) Matthews, 77, of Ohio City passed away at 9:40 p.m., Thursday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert. She was born on January 25, 1941, in Van Wert the daughter of the late Robert D. and Beulah (Dias) Harden. On June 3, 1960, she married Jan C. Matthews who also preceded her in death on February 2, 2006. Family survivors include her two sons, Jeffrey C. (Lisa) Matthews and Robert Todd (Brenda) Matthews all of Ohio City; two sisters, Patricia A. Ford of Van Wert and Margaret "Peg" (Andy) Candor of Fort Wayne; a brother, Thomas (Nan Cowan) Harden of La Jolla, California; five grandchildren, Ashley Matthews (Matt Hurless), Abby Matthews, Danielle Matthews, Tyler Matthews and Tanner Matthews; a great granddaughter, Margo Matthews Hurless; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Roberta was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Clide Ford. She was a 1959 graduate of Van Wert High School. She had worked on the family farm driving tractors. She also worked for Gary Malott District Sales for Gutwein Seeds and retired from Kill Bros. (Unververth Manufacturing) in Delphos. Roberta was an Ohio State Buckeye fan, an avid reader and loved her dogs as well as spoiling her grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 9, 2018, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Bevington of the Ohio City Community Church of God officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 - 8 p.m., Thursday. Preferred memorials are to the Ohio City Fire Department/EMS or the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center.
