Robert Hoyt "Bob" Shindeldecker, 92, of Liberty Township, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 10:58 p.m., Wednesday at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on July 8, 1920, in Ohio City, the son of the late Eugene F. and Hattie Annetta (High) Shindeldecker. On December 4, 1948, he married the former Ceola Fern Barnhart who preceded him in death on January 6, 1969. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Sue Gellenbeck; three great great grandchildren; a brother, Carl W. Shindeldecker; and a sister, Janice Enyart. Family survivors include four daughters, Vicki (Jerry) Saylor of Van Wert, Penny Medford of Van Wert, Sheree (Tim) Tumlinson of Versailles, Kentucky, and Robin Shindeldecker of East Liverpool, Ohio; one son, Kerry (Liz) Shindeldecker of Ohio City; a brother, Walter (Audrey) Shindeldecker of Findlay; three sisters, Ilo Mercer of Convoy, Evelyn (William) Barnhart of Van Wert, and Ethel (John) Rollins of Ohio City; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Bob retired from Continental Can Company (Greif Bros.) and farmed. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and raised exotic animals on his farm for many years. He also collected and restored antique tractors and cars. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the 3rd Division, 30th Infantry during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Harvey Lewis Post 346 of the American Legion. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2013, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #346 of Ohio City. Preferred memorials are to the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
