Richard I. Hurless, 83, of Van Wert, died at 12:55 a.m., Sunday at the Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on September 28, 1930, in Mercer County, the son of the late Alva Doyt and Olive Irene (Hunter) Hurless. On October 29, 1950, he married the former Gloria J. Young who survives. Other family members include daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Larry Niederkohr of Ann Arbor, MI, Pamela J. and W. Denney Kerns of Van Wert, and Sandra and Gregg Bashore of Van Wert; son and daughter-in-law, Randolph Wayne and Etta Hurless of San Diego, CA; brother and sister-in-law, Mel and Arlene Hurless of Van Wert; sister-in-law, Wanda Hurless of Ohio City; nine grandchildren, Adam Niederkohr, Joshua Kerns, Kimberley Kerns, Nicholas Kerns, Paul Hurless, Eric Hurless, Erin Hurless, Andrew Bashore and Daniel Bashore; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Ruth Barnhart and a brother, Rex L. Hurless. Richard was a 1948 graduate of Rockford High School and charter member of Calvary Evangelical Church. He retired from Aeroquip (Eaton) Corp. after 30 years of service. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 10, 2014, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Clark Williman officiating. Interment will follow at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday 2 - 8 p.m. Preferred memorials are to the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
