Ohio City - Richard "Dick" R. Ellinger, 94, passed away early Saturday at Hearth and Home in Van Wert. He was born on March 13, 1922, in Ohio City He was the son of the late Perry Walter "Jack" Ellinger and Pearl Mae (Garrard) Ellinger. He is survived by his wife, Pauline, whom he married June 11, 1944. Other survivors include daughter Pamela M. (James) Ellinger McGrady of Dublin, Ohio and son, Denis W. Ellinger of Ohio City. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Ned, Homer, John, James, Leo, Eugene, and sister, Recie (Ellinger) Beach.. He was a 1943 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty School. He became a life-long member of the former Ohio City Church of God in 1925; and retired from Continental Forest Industries (Greif Brothers) with 34 years of service. During his life, Dick was active in the community and served on the Vantage school board, the County school board, the Ohio City Church of God board, and the Boy Scouts. He also volunteered as a Big Brother and was a mentor for Project You & Me. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, 616 S. Washington Street, Van Wert, Ohio. Service will follow at 6 p.m., with Pastor Brad Adams officiating. Preferred memorials are to the Ohio City Park Association, P.O. Box 102, Ohio City, OH 45874.
