Ray M. Burk, 67, of Pleasant Township. passed away Sunday evening shortly after arrival at the Van Wert County Hospital. He was born on September 18, 1947, in Scott, Ohio, the son of the late Richard and Thelma (Schwartz) Burk. On September 30, 1967, he married the former Carol L. DeMaderios who survives. Other family members include two sons, Eric J. Burk of Auburn, IN and Shane R. Burk of Ohio City; five grandchildren, Zack, Dyllan, Erica, Karolann and Charlie Burk; a brother, Roy (Ada) Burk of Paulding; and two sisters Ruby Day of Convoy and Roxine (Dave) Rodman of Melrose, Ohio. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Burk. Ray attended Blue Creek Local High School and served in the U.S. Navy 1965 - 1968. He was a dealer for Certified Gas in Van Wert 1978 - 1985, then worked at the General Motors Foundry in Defiance for 25 years retiring in 2005. He was a member of Isaac Van Wert Post #178 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #5803. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his family Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with his brother Pastor Roy Burk officiating. Interment will follow at Scott Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the combined honor guard of the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts of Van Wert. Calling hours are Thursday 11 a.m. until time of the service at 2 p.m. Preferred memorials are to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
