Phyllis J. Holmes, 72, of rural Ohio City, died at 2:04 p.m., Thursday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert. She was born on March 19, 1944, in Van Wert, the daughter of Charles Blackmore who died June 24, 1970, and Mildred (Robeson) Blackmore who died on July 17, 1998. Phyllis was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorcas Blackmore. Family survivors include her husband, Phillip L. Holmes, who she married on February 3, 1973; three brothers, Jack (Gwenda) Blackmore, Don (Barb) Blackmore, and Willy (Edie) Blackmore; and three sisters, Carolyn (Rex) Coil, Nancy Lewis, and Pam Dellinger. Phyllis was a 1962 graduate of Van Wert High School and was the first female police officer for Van Wert City. She was owner and manager of Holmes Rentals and had worked at the Budd Company. No services are scheduled at this time.
