Obituary

Ned Eugene Dull, 93, currently residing with family in Springboro and long time resident and business owner in Van Wert, died at 1 a.m., Wednesday morning. He was born on October 18, 1923, in Ohio City, the son of the late Eugene Arthur and Faye Leona (Dudgeon) Dull. On January 29, 1944, he married the former Margaret Irene Stahl, his junior high school sweetheart, who preceded him in death on August 8, 1991. Ned was a 1941 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School who attended the Ohio State University and The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the 100th Infantry. He returned to work and owned the family business, Dull Lumber and Supply Company for the next 50 years. After retiring from the lumber business, he became the Grand Recorder of the United Grand Imperial Council, Red Cross of Constantine for the next 20 years in Springfield, Illinois. He was a former member and active Trustee of the First United Methodist Church in Van Wert. Ned was a member of the Van Wert Elks, VFW, American Legion and the Rotary Club with over 64 years of perfect attendance. Ned thoroughly enjoyed vacationing in Naples, Florida, and was an avid golf and bridge player. A very large and important part of his life was the Masonic Fraternity. He was a member and presiding officer of the Masonic Lodge, Chapter, Council and Commandery of Van Wert. He was the senior 33rd Degree member of the Valley of Toledo, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Ned was also a member of the Ohio Priory #18 Knights of the York Cross of Honor. He started Knight Templar drill competition in Ohio as the captain of Ivanhoe Drill Team with 3 consecutive first place National Championships over a period of 18 years. Ned served as the Past Grand Commander of Ohio and was the senior Past Grand Master of the Grand Encampment, Knight Templars of the United States. He held yet another national office, as Past Grand Sovereign of the Grand Imperial Council Red Cross of Constantine, serving the United States, Mexico, the Philippines, and Japan. Family members include his four daughters, Deborah (Jack) Frysinger, Jr., of Naples, Florida, Rebecca (Kim) Davis of Columbus, Cindy (Gary) Kline of Springboro, and Kathie (Pat) Lewis of Grove City, Ohio; eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, Van Wert with Father Donald Davidson, a close family friend, officiating. Interment will follow at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the combined honor guard of the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts of Van Wert. Calling hours will be from 2 - 7 p.m., Sunday, January 15 at Cowan & Son Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday. Preferred memorials are to the Van Wert Masonic Temple.
