Michael B. Smith 50, of Ohio City died at 3:55 p.m., Friday shortly after arrival at Van Wert County Hospital. He had fought a long battle with cancer, but Mike wanted it know that he died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctors' orders and raising hell for four decades. He was born on April 2, 1967, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of the late Bill and Carol (Hammond) Smith. Mike leaves behind his eight children, Jeff Smith of Nelsonville, Ohio, Felicia Smith of Van Wert, Ashley (Royce) Arnett of Van Wert, Andy Smith of Van Wert, Erika (Curtis) Kreischer of Convoy, Courtney Smith of New Haven, Indiana, Hannah (Isaac Nichols) Smith of Fort Jennings, and Spencer Smith of Ohio City; his companion, Juli Dearing and her two children, Drey and Delaney of Kenton; a sister, Deb (Gary) Gottschalk of Willshire; seven grandchildren; and Halle, his service dog. Mike retired from driving truck after 24 years. He enjoyed his cigars and coffee while posting goofy Facebook statues and his lovely girlfriend Juli until the day he died. His devotion to his children was his biggest and greatest concern. They are his pride and joy. He loved having everyone together for fun and laughter. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home. There will be calling 10 a.m., until time of service on Wednesday.
