Max D. Swoveland went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 8, 2014, with his family and his fiancé by his side. He died at Kindred Hospital in Lima after an illness of two months. He was born on August 9, 1924, in Ohio City to Von Cassel and Neoma Luetta (Dilbone) Swoveland who preceded him in death. On April 1, 1948, he married the former Patria Jean Chambers who also preceded him in death on March 2, 1997. Max graduated from Ohio City Liberty School in 1942. He then attended Ohio Northern University on a basketball scholarship. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II while attending college. During the war, he was in the Battle of the Bulge. He came home and worked for General Telephone Company and retired after 35 years. Following his retirement, he farmed and raised horses which had been his lifelong passion. He and his wife Pat were 4-H horse advisors for many years. Max had many wonderful dogs during his life and was known for taking his dogs everywhere he went. He loved fishing with friends and family - and his dog. He was a member of American Legion Post 346 in Ohio City and attended the Ohio City Church of God all his life. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Sharon Swoveland; a sister, Peggy Jean Swoveland; and a granddaughter, Danielle Jean Swoveland. Max is survived by his children, Christina (Tom) Chilcote, Dan Swovelenad and Dawn (Douglas) Laemmle; three granddaughters, Sheila (Keith) Collins, Tara (Scott) Taylor and Jessica (Alex) Feasby; two grandsons, Douglas Tyler and Derin Tanner Laemmle; two step great granddaughters, Courtney and Haley Taylor; and his beloved fiancé Joann Cox. Services will be held at Cowan & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Pastors Randy Bevington and Steven Waterman officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ohio City Church of God or the Ohio City E.M.S.
