Maurice Calvert Taylor, 86, of Liberty Township, passed away at 8:44 p.m., Tuesday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert He was born on January 18, 1928, in Ohio City, the son of the late Cecil Calvert and Florence Lillian (Shindeldecker) Taylor. On January 1, 1950, he married the former Shirley Ann Scarpelli in the First Baptist Church. Besides his wife, other family survivors include two children, Gina K. (Larry) Subler and Keith E. Taylor, both of Ohio City; three granddaughters, Amanda (Michael) Decker, Stacey Subler and Erica (James) Roehm; two great granddaughters, Addison Roehm and Makayla Decker; and one brother, Gaylord L. Taylor of Van Wert. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Coral Evelyn Marbaugh on April 4, 2014. Maurice was a 1946 graduate of Ohio City Liberty High School and attended Olive Branch Church of God where he taught Sunday School. He had worked on the railroad, at Bordens Foods, the A & P Grocery, construction and as a television repairman. He retired from Daimler-Chrysler on Jan. 12, 1990. He was a veteran of U.S. Air Force, 1951 - 1955. He was a member of Academy of Model Aeronautics, the Black Swamp Fliers, and the Van Wert County Horseshoe Club, winning the County Championship in 2004. Besides his love of radio controlled airplanes, Maurice enjoyed growing apples, making apple cider and cutting wood. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 5, 2014, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Steven G. Waterman officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Ohio City Post of the American Legion and representatives of the United States Air Force. Preferred memorials are to the Olive Branch Church of God or the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center.
