Obituary

Mary Louise Fortney, 86, of Tully Township, passed away at 9:51 a.m., Friday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born on January 6, 1928, in Monroeville, Indiana, the daughter of the late Donald and Mazie (Clevenger) Baker. On November 15, 1947, she married Morgan Lucius Fortney who also preceded her in death on March 15, 2011. Family members include two sons, Rex (Beverly) Fortney of Van Wert, Gary (Tamara) Fortney of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter, Theresa (Dennis) Sites of North Manchester, Indiana; six grandchildren, Rhonda (Craig) Smart, Jeremy Sites, Laura (Josh) Gross, Ryan (Kristy) Fortney, Justin Fortney, Brianna Fortney; four great grandchildren; her brother, Donald "Jake" Baker of Convoy; and two sisters, Patricia Fralick of Convoy and Joan Pierce of Monroeville. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Baker, who was killed in the Korean War. Mary was a 1946 graduate of Hoaglin High School and retired from Aeroquip (Eaton) Corporation. She was a member of Countryside Chapel United Methodist Church and actively participated in the Ladies Group, Sunday school, as a youth leader and many other positions. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2014, at Countryside Chapel United Methodist Church west of Convoy with Rev. Wayne Kargas officiating. Interment will follow at Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday 2 - 6 p.m., at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the Church. Preferred memorials are to Countryside Chapel United Methodist Church.
