Lyle R. "Zeb" Mitchener, 67, of Celina and formerly of Van Wert, died at 9:05 a.m., Monday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert. He was born on January 30, 1947, in Van Wert the son of Dorotha J. "Dottie" (Canny) Mitchener of Van Wert and the late Paul F. Mitchener. Survivors in his long-time partner, Kathy Phillips of Celina, three sons, Greg (Gabriella Chavaria) Mitchener of Convoy, Brian (Tracy) Mitchener of Huntertown, IN, and Adam (Lea) Purk of Delphos; a daughter, Shana (Ken) Gilkey of Kailua, Hawaii; two brothers, Ray Lynn "Ace" (Barb) Mitchener of Linn, MO and Kim (Mary) Mitchener of Findlay; one sister, Faye Ditto of Van Wert; twelve grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Lyle had been a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. He was a charter member of the Wetzel Motorcycle Club and also member of the American Legion Post 178, Van Wert, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, Van Wert, and the Celina Moose Lodge. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
