Obituary

Luther J. Friesner, 94, of Van Wert, passed away at 4:15 a.m., Thursday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert. He was born on July 10, 1922, in Middle Point, the son of the late Luther and Fayne (Armstrong) Friesner. On March 24, 1946, he married the former Myra L. Hunsaker who survives. Other family survivors include two sons, Stephen J. (Maria) Friesner and Jan W. (Kris) Friesner all of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Austin, Dylan and Connor; two step grandchildren, Jason and Amber; a great grandson, Castiel; and five step great grandchildren, Dayton, Draven, Benjamin, Harmony and Symphony. Besides his parents, Luther was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris and Evelyn Friesner. He was a 1940 graduate of Middle Point High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 99th Infantry Division. Luther was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and earned the Purple Heart. He had one year of engineering school while in the Army. He had worked at Continental Can Company and Aeroquip. He then was a rural mail carrier out of Middle Point retiring with 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Rev. William C. Haggis, II, officiating. Calling hours will be 1 - 3 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Interment will take place at 11 a.m., Monday at Ridge Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to St. Marks Lutheran Church.
