Louis J. Ehmer, 76, of Van Wert, passed away at 10:15 p.m., Thursday at Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital. He was born on November 21, 1938, in Massilon, Ohio, the son of the late Louis and Marie (Schultz) Ehmer. On May 6, 1961, he married the former Sigrid Kuknat who survives in Van Wert. Other family members include his daughter, Laura S. (Jason) Riley of Georgetown, Kentucky; one son, Eric L. Ehmer of Columbus; two grandchildren, Will and Jack Riley; and close family friend, Brenda Marbaugh of Van Wert. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Joan Boyer. Louis was a 1956 graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Michigan and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Convoy. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Chrysler-Amplex in Van Wert as production manager. He served on Van Wert City Council for several terms and as Mayor of Van Wert for four years. He was a member of the Van Wert Rotary Club, the Van Wert Lions Club, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #5803, and American Legion Post #178, where he served at chaplain for many years. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, south of Convoy with Rev. Mike Saylor officiating. Interment will follow at Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the combined honor guard of the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts of Van Wert. Calling hours are Tuesday 2 - 8 p.m., also at Redeemer Lutheran Church south of Convoy. Preferred memorials are to the American Legion Post #178, V.F.W. Post #5803, or Redeemer Lutheran Church.
