Lorenz Herold "Dick" Germann, 89, of Van Wert, died at 7:38 p.m., Tuesday at VanCrest Health Care Center, Van Wert. He was born on December 12, 1925, in Harrison Township, the son of the late Herold A. and Elenora K. (Siegel) Germann. On September 24, 1947, he married the former Helen Marie Bilderback who died on January 6, 2009. Dick was a graduate of Wren High School and life long member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church. He was a farmer in Harrison Township and retired from Aeroquip Corp. (Eaton). He was a 40-year advisor for the 4-H Small Engine Club and as a master mechanic, he encouraged many young people to become mechanics themselves. He was past president of the Community Concert Series and member of the Old Fashioned Farmer's Association. Dick enjoyed restoring antique tractors and he spent many happy hours in his machine shop fixing, welding and fabricating most anything mechanical. He also enjoyed the winters that he and Helen spent in Florida. Family survivors include his three children, Debra Bridges of Madison, IN, Dennis Germann of Waterville, Ohio, and Doug (Renee) Germann of Ohio City; four children, Andrea and Alex Bridges, Kelsey Haught, Zane Germann; and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Germann of Van Wert. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Germann, a brother-in-law, Paul William Bilderback, and a sister-in-law, Betty Louise Bilderback. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2015, at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Harrison Township with Pastor Timothy Sims officiating. Interment will follow at Evangelical Protestant Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 4 - 8 p.m., at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the Church. Preferred memorials are to St. Thomas Lutheran Church, VanCrest Activity Fund or the donor's choice.
