VAN WERT, OH SUMMERFIELD, FL - Lois Elaine Boyer, 74, of Summerfield, FL, (Marion County), formerly of Van Wert, died at 7:34 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Tuscany House Hospice Center in Summerfield, following a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She was born December 14, 1938 in Arbuckle, CA the daughter of the late Warren A. and Edna Mae Carey. On December 15, 1956, she married Howard Thomas Boyer, who died May 23, 2006, widowing her after 49 1/2 years of marriage. Mrs. Boyer was a devoted wife and loving mother. She graduated from Bellefontaine High School, Bellefontaine, OH, and made her career in banking. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of the Villages in Summerfield, and a former member of Calvary Evangelical Church, Van Wert. She was active in various clubs and activities within her community. She enjoyed serving as an usher at the Church on the Square in The Villages, FL, and as a volunteer at the Veteran's Administration and The Villages hospitals. Survivors include two daughters, Julie A. (Michael) Medford, of Van Wert; Carrie L. (Dan) Finkhousen, of Blythewood, SC, formerly of Van Wert; one son, Clinton Thomas (Johanna) Boyer, of Fairfax Station, VA; one sister, Sheila Slechta of Roseville, CA, and 6 grandsons. She was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Buzz Carey, who died in October 1988. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, OH with Chaplain (MAJ) Dan Finkhousen officiating. Burial will be in Hartford Cemetery in Spencerville, OH. Calling hours are 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion County, FL or a charity of donors choice.
