Linda Kay (Stemen) Summersett, 76, died at 10:15 a.m., Friday at her residence in Van Wert. On February 26, 1940, James Gardner Stemen and Esther Lorene (Wyandt) Stemen welcomed their first daughter into the world. She came with bright eyes and a big smile she shared with all who knew her throughout her life. She lost her mother when she was young, but was blessed to be raised by her grandmother who taught her sewing, cooking, generosity and unconditional love. She found her passions were music, studies, and fashion design. On June 22, 1959, she married her high school sweetheart, Larry Dean Summersett. They had two daughters she embraced and treasured: Laurie Lynn (Summersett) Thompson and Lisa Gaye (Summersett) McGuire. As her family grew so did her devotion. Other survivors include her grandchildren: Lyndi McGuire (Callon) McCoy, Thomas Thompson, Elizabeth (Thompson) Saunier, Joseph McGuire, Victoria Thompson, and Nicolas Thompson; nine great grandchildren: Arianna Thompson, Juliana McGuire, Alyssah and Alexah Thompson, Hayden Saunier, Cian Saunier, Molly Thompson, Callon McCoy, Finn McCoy, and one other on the way; two sisters, Marjorie (James) Wollet and Doretha Minor; a brother, John Stemen; a great aunt, Ilo Grubaugh; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Stemen. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Michael "Jimmy" Stemen; and Larry Summersett. She gave thanks for her blessings at St. Marks Lutheran Church with her close friend in Pastor Will Haggis. She worked nearly 30 years in Fort Wayne at Lincoln National Life Insurance as a computer systems analyst. She lived gracefully, she gave generously, and she loved unconditionally. Our loss as a family is great. As a friend, she will always be remembered fondly and all will remember her smile. She always had wings, but on May 13, 2016, God gave her flight. A memorial service will be held at St. Marks Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 18th at 1 p.m., with Rev. William C. Haggis, II officiating.
