Obituary

Lelan D. Cook, 80, of Pleasant Township, passed away at 11:20 p.m., Sunday at the Van Wert Manor Nursing Home. He was born on June 1, 1933, in Parma, Michigan, the son of the late William Herman and Mary Belle (Swift) Cook. He was also preceded in death by a sister in infancy. On August 30, 1958, he married the former Margaret L. Thomas who survives. Other family members include his son, Duane L. Cook of Clyde, Ohio; a daughter, Michele L. Griffin of Sardinia, Ohio; one brother, Maynard Cook of LeCanto, Florida; and three grandchildren, Brian Griffin and Madison and Jaden Cook. Lee was a graduate of East Jackson High School and Jackson Junior College both of Jackson, Michigan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and member of First Baptist Church in Van Wert where he had served as usher, church treasurer and trustee. He was also a member of the Rolling Sams Camping Club. He retired from Eaton (Aeroquip) Corporation as supervisor of the drafting department. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 6, 2013, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery where military rites will be held by the combined honor guard of the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts of Van Wert. Calling hours are Thursday 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m., at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the Church. Preferred memorials are to the First Baptist Church Missionary Fund.
