Larry Lee Giessler, 79, of Van Wert, passed away at 8:55 a.m., Wednesday at the Inpatient Hospice Center He was born on August 2, 1934, in Van Wert, the son of the late Merlin Smith and Esther Giessler. He was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Adam and Rosena (Klein) Giessler. On July 22, 1972, he married the former Paula M. Coleman who survives. Other family members include his daughter, Alisha R. (Charles) Buchanan of Westerville, Ohio; a son, Adam G. Giessler of Columbus; one grandson, Audie J. Buchanan; three half-sisters, Candy Arney of California, Marcia Bangs of California and Merna Miller of Nevada; a sister-in-law, Kathy (Gregg) Perry of Hoagland, IN; and a brother-in-law, Ron (Linda) Coleman of Ocala, Florida. Larry was a 1952 graduate of Van Wert High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Grace Bible Church. After forty years, he retired as supervisor of mail and supply at Central Mutual Insurance. He also refereed basketball for 25 years. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Grace Bible Church with Pastor Lance Hostetler officiating. Burial will follow at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the combined honor guard of the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts of Van Wert. Calling hours are Sunday 1 - 6 p.m., also at Grace Bible Church on Airport Avenue in Van Wert. Preferred memorials are to the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center.
