Joyce R. Hirn, 70, of Ridge Township, passed away at 3:05 p.m., Monday from advanced cancer complications at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. She was born on January 17, 1943 in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Clifford E. and Florence L. (Ireland) McCleery. On August 24, 1963, she married Dennis Lynn Hirn who preceded her in death on December 25, 2011. Also preceding in death is a brother, Ronald E. McCleery. She is survived by her son, Colby Lynn Hirn of Columbus and a sister, Sharon (Jim) McConnell. Joyce was a loving wife, and mother; former home economics teacher in the Van Wert area; former social worker for the Van Wert Welfare Dept; executive officer for CEMCO Farm Corp; and served as an active manager of operations of both McCleery and Hirn/Morgan family farms until her death. She was a 1961 graduate of Lincolnview High School and graduate of the Ohio State University (Columbus) earning her degree in Home Economics Education in 1965. She was a member Bethel United Methodist Church and an active United Methodist volunteer throughout her life. She was also a former Van Wert County 4-H Council member, an active volunteer of 4-H programs throughout her life and a strong supporter of music and the arts within Van Wert County. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
