John Roger Wood, 74, of Van Wert, died at 5:17 p.m., Tuesday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert. He was born on January 30, 1941, in McDowell County, West Virginia, the son of the late John and Winnie L. (Honaker) Wood. On November 13, 1961, he married the former Sandra Glenna Porter who survives. Other family members include one daughter, Lisa D. Couch of Van Wert; four brothers, Raymond (Angel) Wood of Winchester, Kentucky, Charles (Joyce) Wood of Homestead, FL, Richard (Diane) Wood of Okeechobee, FL, and Steve (Susie) Wood of Convoy; one sister, Emily May of Scottsdale, AZ; three grandchildren, Ty Goings, Jered Couch, and Maggie Couch; and one great granddaughter, Brooklyn Hough. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by two daughters, Donna Sue Goings and Dianna Lue Chaney; two sisters, Marvin Smith and Gladys Querico; and one brother, Kenneth Wood. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired in 1995 from the Van Wert City Water Treatment Plant. There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 24, 2015, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home. Calling will be from 12 noon Thursday until time of service.
