Jim R Carroll, 63, of Van Wert, died at 4:55 a.m., Monday at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. He was born on March 5, 1949, in Van Wert, the son of the late Elmo and Ellen (Shepherd) Carroll. On July 12, 1968, he married the former Shirley Ann Hammons who survives. Other family survivors include three children, Michael (Melony) Carroll of Archbold, Ann (Brian) DeWaters of Garrett, Indiana, and Cody (Sarah) Carroll of Lima; five grandchildren, Katie, Melissa, Montana, Kaitlyn and Jackson; four step-grandchildren, Tera, Shawn, Kasey and Bradi; four great grandchildren, Kahlee, Kamden, Braxton and Addy; six step great grandchildren, Ridley, Braylen, Casion, MacKenna, Jerrick and Arianna; two brothers, Bill Carroll and Eddie Carroll, both of Van Wert; and five sisters, Sue (Larry) Dowler of Van Wert, Colleen (Michael) Rowland of Middle Point, Nancy (Louie) King of Lima, Faye (Jack) Trinosky of Van Wert, and Peggy Burnett of Van Wert. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Herschel Eugene Carroll, Kerry Lee Carroll and Barry Lynn Carroll Jim was employed for 44 years at Greif Bros. in Van Wert and was a member of United Steel Workers Local #13029, serving as president for 20 years. He was an avid supporter of the local D.A.R.E. program. He was a long time member of the Middle Point Ball Park Association and enjoyed coaching youth baseball in Middle Point and Van Wert. Jim was a great family man and a die hard Yankees fan. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Bolenbaugh and Rev. Neil Hammons officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 2 - 5 and 6 - 8 and one hour prior to services on Saturday morning. Preferred memorials are to the Unverferth House associated with the Ohio State University Medical Center.
