Janet Joan Schmidt, 87, of Van Wert passed away at 4:10 a.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2023, at Vancrest of Van Wert.

She was born on June 27, 1936, in Paulding County the daughter of the late Lionel Guy and Thelma Adelia (Peterson) Workman. On April 20, 1959, she married Billy Joe Schmidt who also preceded her in death on April 25, 2020.

Family survivors include her daughter, Tina Eibling of Van Wert; a son, Chris Schmidt of Niles; a granddaughter, Kayla (Lorenzo) Frye of Van Wert; six great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Keilee, Zaine, Diego, Talon and Evie; a brother, Roland (Shari) Workman of Battle Creek, Michigan; a sister, Lynda Jo (Dan) Schott of Van Wert; a sister-in-law, Joan Workman of Van Wert.

Besides her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by a son, Scott Schmidt; a sister, Freeda Dray; and three brothers, Carol Cloyce Workman, Frederic Guy Workman and Dwendolin Workman.

Janet was a homemaker and had worked at St. Marys Foods and the Van Wert County Extension Office.

Family services will be held at a later date.
