James E. Coombs, 73 of Convoy, died at 2:06 a.m., Thursday at VanCrest Health Care Center in Van Wert. He was born on January 22, 1945, in Waterford, Michigan, the son of the late Derward Jacob and Madge Marie (McCollum) Coombs. On August 14, 1965, he married the former Terry E. Longwell and she survives. Other family members include a daughter, Amber R. (Christopher Handy) Coombs of Convoy; a son, Jamie D. (Danielle Ripley) Coombs of Payne; two brothers, Daniel Coombs of Pontiac, Michigan and Dean Coombs of Greenbush, Michigan; a brother-in-law, David (Karen) Longwell of Florida; five grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Coombs. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the paint department at Kennedy Manufacturing. There will be private services for the family. Preferred memorials are to the VanCrest Health Care Activity Fund or the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center.
