Harlan R. Kaiser, 87, passed away Friday morning at his residence in Van Wert. He was born on July 31, 1928, in Edon, Ohio, the son of the late Raymond George and Jennie Fern (Dove) Kaiser. On June 14, 1951, he married the former Donna Joan Brown who survives. Other family member include his two daughters, Linda L. Kaiser of Newark, Ohio, and Deborah S. (Robert A.) Gehres of rural Ohio City; one grandson, Brian J. (Nora) Gehres of Marysville, Ohio; and a great grandson, Drew Allen Gehres. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald L. Kaiser. Harlan was a graduate of Van Wert High School and a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from International Harvester in Fort Wayne. He faithfully attended St. Marks Lutheran Church in Van Wert and enjoyed travel, gardening and fishing. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016, at St. Marks Lutheran Church with Rev. William C. Haggis, II, officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the combined honor guard of the American Legion and V.F.W. Post of Van Wert. Calling will be one hour prior to services Thursday also at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
