Obituary

Gloria E. Voltz, 92, passed away at 6:10 Thursday evening at her home in Willshire Township. She was born on July 15, 1925, three miles west of Van Wert, the daughter of the late Hugh Bronson and Hazel (Knowlton) Elder. On January 9, 1945, she married Billy Voltz who also preceded her in death on February 22, 2005. Family survivors include her daughter, Diane Kay (Ronald) Shale of Englewood, Colorado; two sons, John W. (Susan Germann) Voltz and James R. Voltz all of Ohio City; four grandchildren, Sofia Kathleen (Matthew) Bergman, Craig B. (Sarah Barcanic) Voltz, Curtis W. (Cheri) Voltz, and Alissa Jane (Michael) Reed; four great grandchildren, Timothy John "Jack" Voltz, Anna Catherine Voltz, William Barrett "Will" Voltz, and Elizabeth Susan "Lizzy" Voltz; and five great grandchildren, Jaythan William Voltz, Corrin Elizabeth Voltz, Liam Michael Reed, Emma Jane Reed, and Samantha Reed; and a foster great granddaughter, Naomi. Besides her parents and husband, Gloria was preceded in death by a sister, Ireta Louise Kiehl; a brother, Hugh B. Elder, Jr.; a granddaughter, Melissa Shale; and a great granddaughter, Lily Reed. Gloria was a 1943 graduate of Van Wert High School. She had worked at Continental Can Company and was long time bookkeeper for Voltz Electric. She was a member of St. Paul's Reformed Church in America. Gloria was a 70-year member of Hyler Chapter #432, then Van Wert Chapter # 48, Order of Eastern Star where she held various offices including worthy matron and associate matron. She was active in the state Order of the Eastern Star including worthy Grand Matron, State of Ohio in 1986. She had sang solos and in various duets and trios for church and the Eastern Star. Gloria had traveled widely in Europe, the Holy Land, Alaska, Hawaii and most of the continental United States. She was also a member of Pioneer Families of Van Wert County. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 12, 2018, at St. Paul's Reformed Church in American in Harrison Township with Rev. Jerry A. Flueckiger officiating. Interment will follow at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday 2 - 7 p.m., at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the Church. An Order of the Eastern Star service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m., at the Funeral Home. Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association.
