Glen Haydn Owens, 85, of York Township, died at 7:15 p.m., Thursday at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. He was born on January 27, 1928, in York Township, the son of the late Evan Glen and Leona (Davis) Owens. On January 31, 1953, he married the former Ione Maye Swartz who survives. Family members include two sons, Don Owens of York Township and Jeff A. Owens of Van Wert; one brother David (Jean) Owens of York Township; two grandchildren, Brian Owens and Kayla Owens; and one great grandson, Griffin Jameson Owens. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Mildred (Breese) Owens and a daughter-in-law, Diana Owens. Haydn was a 1946 graduate of York High School and longtime member of Salem United Presbyterian Church in Venedocia. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Borden's Food in Van Wert, having served over 30 years. He also worked the family farm and was a road man for York Township for many years. Haydn was proud of his Welch heritage and will be sadly missed by his family. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Thomas Emery officiating. Burial will follow in Venedocia Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday 2 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the Salem United Presbyterian Church Major Improvement Fund.
