Geraldine L. Smith, 86 of Van Wert, died at 4:00 a.m., Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the C.H.P.-Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert, Ohio. She was born on April 16, 1930 in Huntington, Indiana, the daughter of the late Harold and Irene (Hoover) Drabenstot. On September 24, 1949, she married James W. Smith, who survives. Geraldine was a homemaker. She was a member of First Church of God in Van Wert; a 1949 graduate of Huntington High School; and former Girl Scout Leader. Family survivors include her husband, Jim; two sons, Charles (Brenda) Smith of Rockford and Harold (Carol) Smith of Van Wert; a daughter, Susan (Ray) Hill of Van Wert; two sisters, Maxine Elick of Florida and SueAnn (Robert) Ladig of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Drabenstot. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, January 9, 11:00 a.m. at First Church of God in Van Wert, officiated by Pastor Jason Holler. Visitation is scheduled for 2-5 p.m. Sunday and one hour ahead of the service, both at that church. Burial is at Glenwood Cemetery in Roanoke, Indiana.
