George F. P. Weck, 91, of Harrison Township, died at 7:26 a.m., Sunday at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on January 20, 1922, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Frederick and Clara Marie (Schumm) Weck. On August 3, 1947, he married the former Geraldine Delores Brubaker who preceded him in death on December 20, 2004. Family survivors include a son, Phillip Kent (Candace) Weck of Kennett Square, PA; two daughters, Gail Elaine (Bill) Jensen of Hebron, IN and Denise Lynne (Jim) Miller of Huron, Ohio; a sister, Miriam Hofmann of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Allyson (Stephen) Rinker, Meredith Weck, Nathan (Brooke) Jensen, Brian Jensen, Erin (Trahan) Whitten and Christopher Miller; and two great grandchildren, Hayden and Emily Jensen. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Weck and Lester F. Weck and one sister, Selma Merkle. George was a lifetime farmer and tile drainage contractor. He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Harrison Township and the Lutheran Laymen's League. He was a 1941 graduate of Van Wert High School and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the Van Wert County Farm Bureau and active in the American Heart Association. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 29, 2013, at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 6299 German Church Road, with Pastor Timothy Sims officiating. Interment will follow at Evangelical Protestant Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the combined honor guard of the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts of Van Wert. Calling hours are Wednesday 4 - 8 p.m., at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Thursday at the Church. Preferred memorials are to St. Thomas Lutheran Church or the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center.
