Gaylord Lynn Taylor, 88, of Van Wert, died at 4:32 p.m., Wednesday at his residence. He was born on April 15, 1926, in Ohio City, the son of the late Cecil Calvert and Florence Lillian (Shindeldecker) Taylor. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Coral Evelyn Marbaugh and brother, Maurice Calvert Taylor. Family survivors include his son David Lynn (Jackie) Taylor and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Engstrand, all of Van Wert; six grandchildren, Andrew (Angie) Miller, Jason (Kendra) Miller, Kari Lynn Miller, Jennifer (Eric) Profit, Darren Taylor, Joel David Taylor; and eleven great grandchildren with another due in November. Gaylord was a graduate and valedictorian of Ohio City Liberty High School Class of 1944. He worked for 25 years at Continental Can Company where he was the shipping manager. He loved spending many hours with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a very loving father and grandfather with a sense of humor that never faded. He always had a smile, kind words and a good joke for family and friends. He loved to read, do crossword puzzles, chemistry and being out in nature. His forte was picture framing - he hand crafted many frames for anyone who asked. He took great pride in his lawn and it was important to "Always have nice straight lines." He was also an animal lover with dogs being his favorite. He had three, Whitey Whiskers, Fritz and Heide. One of his favorite pastimes was taking long jaunts on his bicycle with his four-legged friend beside him. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Wilcox officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 10 a.m. to time of service on Saturday. Preferred memorials are to the Van Wert County Humane Shelter or the Van Wert County Red Cross.
