Obituary

F. Eugene Bagley, 80, of Colon, Michigan and formerly of Van Wert, passed away at 5:30 p.m., Sunday at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was born on April 30, 1933, in Van Wert, the son of the late Floyd Everett Bagley and Helen M. (Bricker) Bagley who survives in Van Wert. On May 18, 1952, he married the former Joanne Edwards who also survives. Other family members include his three sons and their wives, David E. (Susan) Bagley of Antwerp, Stephen K. (Nina) Bagley of Columbus, and Ric R. (Debra) Bagley of Elida, Ohio; five grandchildren, Trisha (James) Fuller, Ryan (Kayla) Bagley, Ashley (Calvin) Bissell, Justin Bagley and Kelsey Bagley; seven great grandchildren, Alyssa, Camden and Brayden Fuller, Briley, Hudsyn and Carter Bagley, and Conley Bissell; two brothers, James D. (Sara) Bagley of Sarasota, Fl and Ronald R. (Linda) Bagley of Van Wert; and three sisters, J. Coleen (Ray) Etzler of Van Wert, Diane (Larry) Webb of Van Wert, and Janell (Paul Leslie) Boroff of Chandler, AZ. Gene had served as mayor of Van Wert from 1992 - 1999. He previously had served on the City Council for 22 years. He retired from Federal Mogul in Van Wert and also farmed. He was a member of Colon Untied Methodist Church. He was previously a member of the Van Wert Rotary Club, Elks Lodge Men's Garden Club and Willow Bend Country Club. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 14, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Clark Williman officiating. Calling hours are Thursday 2 - 8 p.m., at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the Church. Preferred memorials are to the West Michigan Cancer Center in Kalamazoo.
