Emma M. Salway, 88, formerly of rural Ohio City passed away Wednesday morning at Divine Rehabilitation & Nursing at Shane Hill near Rockford.
She was born on January 11, 1934, in Schuum, Ohio, the daughter of the late Rudolph Benjamin and Lula Anna (Scaer) Allmandinger. On July 12, 1953, she married Harold Floyd Salway who also preceded her in death on December 8, 1996.
Family survivors include her son, Dewayne H. (Kami) Salway of Willshire; a daughter, Ellen (Jerry) Reigle of Ohio City; seven grandchildren, Andrea Benson of Mentor, Ohio, Ross Salway of Charleston, West Virginia, Cassandra (Jeff) Young of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Jay Salway, Prabhu Salway and Ben (Shara) Reigle all of Willshire, and Nick (Brooke Ridenour) Reigle of Ohio City; and eleven great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Emma was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Allen Salway and a brother, William F. Allmandinger.
Emma was a 1952 graduate of Willshire High School and life long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schumm. She was a housewife and had worked at the Ohio City Canning Company and for several years at Convoy Care Center. She enjoyed music and taught piano and accordion lessons.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, October 24, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm with Rev. Hayden Folks and Rev. Robert Becker officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Calling hours are 2 - 5 p.m., Sunday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Monday.
Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church.
