Dwight B. Rhoades, 90 of Venedocia, Ohio, died at 9:30 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2014 at the VanCrest Health Care Center in Van Wert, Ohio. He was born on October 23, 1923 in York Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, the son of the late Alonzo and Ada Mary (Jones) Rhodes. On November 22, 1945, he married Marjorie J. (Knittle), who survives at the residence. Dwight was a lifetime farmer; and salesman for Elgin Service Center in Elgin, Ohio. He was a member of Salem United Presbyterian Church where he had served as elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a 1941 graduate of York High School; member of the Venedocia Lion's Club and had recently received his 45 Chevron pin. He was a great humorist and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, An avid euchre player. Family survivors include his son, Steve M. (Sammie) Rhoades of Findlay, Ohio; two daughters, Mary (Charles) Brenner of Zanesville, Ohio, and Carol (Marty) Sullins of Nashville, TN; brother, John M. (Phyllis) Rhoades of Waynesboro, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Chad (Kristin), Kerrie (Jeff), Stephanie, Kevin, Kyle (Alyson), Katie (Zach), & Adam (Kate); and nine great grandchildren, Gavin, Jackson, Parker, Lily, Reese, Kieran, Madeline, Otto, and Elin. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul W. Rhoades, and sister, Thelma Rhoades. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 11, 2-4 & 5-8 p.m. at Cowan & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 11:00 a.m. at the Salem United Presbyterian Church in Venedocia, Ohio, officiated by Rev. Tom Emery. Interment is at Venedocia Cemetery in Venedocia, Ohio. Preferred memorial are to the C.H.P.-Hospice or Salem United Presbyterian Church.
