Dr. Douglas N. Holman, 70, of Van Wert, died at 4:15 p.m., Sunday at the St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. He was born on September 17, 1944, in Defiance, Ohio, the son of the late Virgil and Erma (Kennedy) Holman. On December 10, 2000, he married the former Donna Kyle who survives. Other family members include his daughter Lori (Jason) Zavitz of Maitland, FL; one son, James H. (Dawn) Holman of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two sisters, Datha Thorp and Bonnie (Bob) Warncke all of Defiance; and six grandchildren, Madison, Kelty, Mackendrick and Jason Zavitz, and Evan and Grant Holman. Dr. Holman was a retired chiropractor, having a practice in Van Wert from 1979 to 2013. He also had been a journeyman pattern maker at the General Motors plant in Defiance for 7 years. He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Van Wert. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Douglas was Past Master at Eureka Lodge #592, F. & A. M., a member of Elks Lodge #1197 and past member of the Van Wert Rotary Club. He was a 50-year member of the American Trapshooters Association and a National Champion Trap Shooter. He also was an avid woodworker. Services will begin at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Masonic rites conducted by Eureka Lodge #592, followed by funeral service with Rev. William C. Haggis, II, officiating. Calling hours are 1 - 6 p.m., also on Thursday. Interment will take place at Van Wert Woodland Cemetery.
