Obituary

Dorthy Louise "Dottie" Sigler Stahl, 87, of Van Wert, died at 7:37 a.m. , Wednesday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born November 10, 1927 in Delphos, Ohio to the late Emerson James Sigler and Faith Mabel (Hittle) Sigler. Her husband, Bob Stahl preceded her in death on October 12, 2014. The couple was married June 29, 1946 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Ohio City, Ohio. In June of 2014, Dottie and Bob celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary. Survivors include a half brother Charles W. Rogers of Van Wert. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Leota Pearl (Sigler) Foreman and Ellen Marie Edward on December 6, 2014; a brother, John Gilbert Sigler; and half brother James L. Rogers. After retiring from Central Mutual Insurance Company in 1987, she joined the Van Wert Chapter of the American Red Cross. She served on the Bloodmobile team and the Disaster unit and then transferred to the Van Wert County Hospital and worked for over 22 years as the Hospital Volunteer Coordinator. During this period she built the hospital volunteer unit to an organization consisting of 46 volunteers working in fourteen departments of the hospital. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist church and served in various capacities in the church. She was very active in starting an older social group called the 60+. Previous to joining the Methodist Church, she was a member of the Ohio City Church of God for over 45 years where she served in various positions. During her free time Dottie was very busy working on her sewing or working in her vegetable and flower garden. She was an avid preparer of canned foods, canning both in glass jars as well as in metal cans. She always was looking for ways to have plenty of food on their fishing vacations. She was a former member of the Iris Rebeckah Lodge of the Odd Fellows and is a current member of the Van Wert American Legion Auxiallry. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 29, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Pastor Josh Tissot and Steve Waterman officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City, Ohio. Calling hours are 1:00-3:00 p.m on Sunday, December 28 at Wesley United Methodist Church. Preferred memorials are to the Wesley United Methodist Church or the Van Wert County Hospital "Dottie" Stahl Endowment Fund.
